PLAN TO RE-USE COOKING OIL
The Madre Coraje (Mother Courage) ONG has started to install containers for recycling old cooking oil in Malaga city. Some 1,600 kilos of grease end up every day on the province's beaches which turn into the unsightly "nata" (scum) on the surface of the sea during the hot summer months. The ONG hopes to collect 200,000 litres of used cooking oil a year, some of which will be converted into soap, and the rest will be sold to biofuel companies. Proceeds will go towards improving the lives of some five million children who live in the slums surrounding the cities in Peru.
