TWO ANTI DRUG POLICE CHIEFS JAILED
Marbella judge Julián Cabrero sent two of the four National Policemen arrested last Tuesday to prison without bail last Friday. They are the UDYCO anti-drugs and organised crime chief from Marbella, identified only as Carlos F. and Alfredo M., the UDYCOchief inspector from Málaga. The judge granted bail with charges for the other two policemen. Two other people connected with the case, a translator at the National Police station in Marbella and the director of the Marbella Clinic, were released on bail of 30,000 euros. All six are being charged as the result of a Police Internal Affairs investigation which began two years ago into alleged misappropriation of items seized in the course of police operations from mafia-type criminal gangs. Interior Minister Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba asked for respect for the four arrested police chiefs last Thursday, reminding reporters that people are innocent until proved guilty.
